SMI Services LLC ("SMI," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. Our website is built and maintained by Shorebird Management, Inc. on our behalf.

Information We Collect

Information you provide

When you submit a form on our website, we collect the information you choose to provide, which may include:

• Name, email address, and phone number
• Company name and project details (contact and quote request forms)
• Resume and employment information (career application forms)

Information collected automatically

We use cookieless, privacy-focused analytics to understand how visitors use our website. This system collects:

• Pages visited, time on page, and scroll depth
• Referring website and UTM campaign parameters
• Browser type, operating system, and device category (desktop, mobile, tablet)
• Approximate geographic location derived from your IP address

Your IP address is used only to determine approximate location and is not stored. Visitor identification is based on a temporary, non-reversible hash that cannot be used to identify you personally. This analytics system does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites.

Separately, we use Meta advertising tools, which do use cookies. They are described in the next section.

Advertising (Meta Pixel and Conversions API)

We advertise on Facebook and Instagram and use tools from Meta Platforms, Inc. to measure how well those ads work and to help Meta show our ads to people likely to be interested in our services.

Meta Pixel

Our pages load a script from Meta (the "Meta Pixel"). It tells Meta which pages you visit on our site, along with your IP address and information about your browser and device. It sets a first-party cookie (_fbp) and, if you arrive from a Meta ad, a click-identifier cookie (_fbc). If you are logged in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may link this activity to your account.

Conversions API

When you submit a contact or quote request, or a job application, our server tells Meta that the submission happened. With that event we send your email address, phone number, and first and last name, each converted to a one-way hash (SHA-256) before it leaves our server, plus your IP address, browser user agent, and the Meta cookies above. We do not send your message, project details, or resume to Meta.

Meta processes this information under its own Privacy Policy. You can manage the ads Meta shows you in your Facebook ad preferences.

How to opt out

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we do not load the Meta Pixel and we do not send form events to Meta. Global Privacy Control is built into browsers such as Firefox, Brave, and DuckDuckGo, and is available as an extension for others. We treat these signals as a request to opt out of targeted advertising.

How We Use Your Information

• To understand website traffic and improve our site's performance and content
• To monitor and ensure website security

Cookies

Our website uses the following cookies:

• Cloudflare security cookies — strictly necessary cookies set by our hosting provider for bot protection and security.
• smi_lang — remembers whether you chose English or Spanish. Set only when you use the language switch.
• Meta advertising cookies (_fbp, _fbc) — used by the Meta Pixel as described above. Not set if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate our website:

• Cloudflare — website hosting, content delivery, and security (including Turnstile bot protection on forms)
• Shorebird Management, Inc. — website development, form processing, and data management
• Meta Platforms, Inc. — advertising measurement and ad delivery on Facebook and Instagram (see Advertising above)

Data Retention

• Form submissions — retained for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which they were submitted, then deleted
• Job applications — retained for up to 12 months after the position is filled, then deleted
• Analytics data — aggregated, non-personal analytics data is retained for up to 2 years

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information for money. Information may be shared only with:

• Our infrastructure and service providers listed above, solely for the purpose of operating this website
• Meta, for advertising measurement and targeting as described in the Advertising section. Under some state privacy laws this may count as "sharing" personal data for targeted advertising; you can opt out as described there.
• Law enforcement or regulatory bodies, if required by law

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request access to any personal information we hold about you
• Request correction or deletion of your personal information
• Opt out of analytics and of targeted advertising by enabling Global Privacy Control or "Do Not Track" in your browser — we honor both signals

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of our website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
